About the Artist:

Daniel O’Connell is a Sydney based artist known for his vibrant, detailed paintings that explore colour, movement and form. From his Palm Beach studio, his work draws inspiration from the natural environment, capturing familiar Australian forms with energy, personality and a distinctive use of colour.

About the Work:

In Purple Sea Urchin, O’Connell turns his attention to one of the ocean’s most distinctive forms. Loose washes, layered pigment and fine gestural marks create a sense of movement across the paper, while the rich purple and blue palette gives the work an unexpected vibrancy.
